The Doctor’s Order – GH

General Hospital is plowing through plots right now! Has Lulu already moved on from thinking she’s married to Stavros? Is Patrick really close enough with Sabrina already for lap-cuddling? Did Nikolas spend all his time on Cassadine Island working on his abs? The plots are flying fast, but I can’t complain if they’re as entertaining as Brenda’s liaison with Michael.

Kisses were exchanged like currency last week with  General Hospital’s departing One Life to Live characters, but they didn’t seem to buy any relationship advancement. I’m glad Carly cut off her transaction with Todd, but why didn’t Sam take McBain to the bank?

We have vampires and slayers, Pickle Lila and the missing Q heir, Frisco swearing to seduce Felicia once again, and Laura in town. These storylines have a lot of potential, but so many of them are just having their groundwork laid. Is it a problem that Kristina attacking Connie engaged me the most?

Sleeping with two guys on the same day and having a paternity issue arise is a soap staple. Which means I have to give the writing team props for tweaking that plot twist into losing one baby and conceiving another on the same night. It’s original, at least. But as my tone may indicate, I’m still not thrilled with the existence of a little Jackal.

Look, I love Finola Hughes. I love that Anna Devane is getting plenty of screentime. I don’t love her romantic triangle with Duke and Luke, and I swear it’s not merely because I prefer her with Robert. Duke and Luke rhyme. Need I say more? I will. Anna had more chemistry with Fake Lavery than she does with Real Lavery. Did all of Duke’s passion and energy get transplanted into that mask?

Has anybody kept a tally of characters returned from the dead this year? Because that count has to be through the roof by now! Faison, Duke, Robin, AJ…you know Jason will eventually be added to this list. I embrace fully the cheesiness of this particular plot contrivance. General Hospital is a soap opera–we should revel in everything it can get away with!

The Interviews — Laura Wright, Nathin Butler, and Erik Valdez

Apologies for the long delay in interview updates from the General Hospital Fan Club’s green room! Sometimes, our real lives can be a pain, interfering with our aspirations for celebrity reporting stardom. But Becca and Dianna, that bubbly duo, is back! And we’re talking wine with Laura Wright and music and character arcs with relative newbies Nathin Butler and Erik Valdez.

So Robin died. And then she didn’t. Sound familiar?

The Doctor’s Order – GH

Hey folks, I haven’t caught up on GH since Friday, so apologies if my musings are out of date. Plus, I just found out about the Mannings coming to Port Charles, so I haven’t fully processed that news yet, but the knee-jerk reaction is . . . awesome! I also have no pretty screen caps for you this week, but you still love me, right? Right? *crickets* Anyhow, lets talk about Sonny and Kate. Their budding relationship is like a florentine cookie that’s burnt at the edges. They are sharing loads of adorable moments—Sonny learning to play the trumpet, reliving their youths in Bensonhurst. But those moments are marred by the bitter taste of ashes.

Want to know a secret? Okay, it’s not a secret if you are at all a regular reader of my column. If you aren’t, or I just haven’t gushed enough lately, the secret is this: Robin Scorpio-Drake is my girl. No really, I mean it. I’ve grown up with Robin, and I continue to get older with her. I think she has a couple of years on me, but you can bet that while Robert Scorpio had his little girl on his knee, I was probably watching from the other side of the screen on my mother’s knee.

This Week’s Specials – GH

We were served four alternate realities of Jason’s life this past week, each one flavored by the woman who imagined it. One had a sprinkling of cocaine, another a dash of artistic flair, the third was swimming in adventure, and the fourth was a partnership of equally repulsive individuals. Bet you can’t guess which one I preferred!

Farewell, Jasper Jacks. We’ve had a long and sordid history over the past fifteen years. I admit, I found you rather irritating for a lot of it. It wasn’t your fault, at least not really. In fact, your arrival playing an arcade shooting range game that showed the little boy on the inside was rather charming. Who can forget your first smile and that head of long, wavy blond locks, not to mention the accent?

It’s impossible to write this week’s column without talking about the change in tone since that name in the credits changed from Robert Guza, Jr. to Garin Wolf. There were only a few times over the past decade that I can say I was honestly angered by General Hospital—the mistreatment of Jax’s rape at Irina’s hands and the utterly pointless murder of Georgie come to mind—but it’s been a long time since I was genuinely hopeful that the tone of the show would shift, that it would become more of a soap opera again rather than an operatic treatment of the lives of mobsters and their molls.

I’m ready to hunt Maxie down and encourage her to spill the beans about Aidan’s paternity myself! I suppose that’s not surprising because I never faulted Robin for telling AJ the truth, either, and Maxie’s come closer to telling the truth than we’ve seen Liz do at all. Sure, there are some secrets that never should be told, but when they involve someone’s child, that rule doesn’t apply.
