So what are your thoughts on this? First, go read Michael’s article on OLTL characters who are now on GH and tell us, should Todd, John, and Starr stay with GH or move to Prospect Park’s online version of OLTL? The show has been off the air for a long time with AMC being gone even longer. Actors have moved on with their lives. The production costs for a soap are very high between actors’ salaries, a team of writers, research specialists, hair, make-up, etc. What do you expect in regard to the online relaunch of AMC and OLTL? Will quality be compromised? What characters do you think will return? Will OLTL maintain its cutting edge quality of story and writing without Frank as EP and Rob as Head Writer? let PP recast if they own the characters. i don’t even have a computer at home and wouldn’t watch the reboots anyway.
The logistics of pulling the actors on GH to a PP project full time would be ridiculous. All three actors would almost certainly have to take a pay cut and uproot their lives. It’s not their fault that PP didn’t have their ducks in a row back when OLTL first went off their air.
That being said: if I were an exec at ABC and PP, I would certainly look into the possibility of guest appearances, the same way that Blair and Tea occasionally pop up. Especially in the first months, to bring the GH audience on board.
I would think the actors would prefer to remain on GH, a one-hour network show, rather than return to OLTL which will likely be only a half-hour show on four days a week and for only part of the year. Salaries would likely be lower at PP. From what I’ve heard Robin Strasser is on board and so is Erika Slezak, Bob Woods and Jerry VerDorn so clearly they are going after the main Buchanans and Dorian to head up the Lord-Kramer clan. I would miss the three now GH characters but they can do the reboot without them. As for AMC, still waiting to hear more about casting there but so far it sounds promising. The key to both reboots will be keeping the cast fairly tight and focusing the show on fewer characters and storylines, like B and B has done successfully for years. Don’t forget that all the soaps used to be only a half hour.
I am waiting to hear if it will be online only or if they will get a network to pick up. A friend mentioned Lifetime to me today and I think that would be an ideal fit for the shows. Just read recently that Disney is still committed to eventually taking SoapNet off the air though for now it is still running. I would prefer to watch on regular TV. I will only watch online if it is free. I can’t and won’t pay and don’t have a Netflix or other streaming account.
What is encouraging is that they finally have agreements with all the main unions and seem to be actually moving ahead with producer hires. Also love that Agnes is going to be a consultant on both shows. If done well, this could be a real turning point for the industry.
Definitely need more info, though! Am hoping the biggest stars and fan favorites will return! Can you picture Pine Valley without Erica Kane? I can’t! Havent’ heard a word at all about La Lucci…..

Since I first posted, it turns out that Mcbain, Starr and Todd will be “off” GH, at least for awhile. Apparently PP still owns the rights to the characters and wants them for the reboot launch. I’m torn. I love Todd and Carly and really want to see more of them down the line. Todd and Blair have been done to death. Also love McBain with Sam on GH, but he really needs to deal with Natalie on OLTL and his son. I could care less about Starr these days, sorry to say, so don’t really care much where she ends up.
Still haven’t seen too many updates about AMC casting, other than Vincent Irizarry and the Castillo sibs. Really hope we get the Kanes, Slaters, Chandlers, Martins back.
Just excited that it really could happen this time and the characters can come back to life, at least some of them! Definitely want to know if JR shot anyone and if Jack was really and truly done with Erica!
