Game of Thrones Spoilers

thumb_game-of-thrones-003.flvBy Katrina Rasbold

Are you as hooked as I am?  That would be to say totally hooked!   I love the series and I loved the books, although Martin does tend to get a bit rambly in parts and by the time you get to his most recent book, Dance With Dragons, you’ve got a whopping total of 31 points of view perspectives (characters telling the story from their perspective).  The books are lonnnnng, but good at holding your attention for the most part.  For those who do not know, there are currently a total of 5 books in the A Song of Ice and Fire series (the first book is called Game of Thrones and HBO adopted it for the name of their whole series) and the last one was released in 2011.  He is taking his own sweet time with #6 and we are hopeful considering that George is only 64, that he will live long enough to finish the story since he absolutely refuses to allow anyone rights to continue it if he dies.  At this time, he plans on two more books in the series, The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring, which will likely cover some time in the future because if we have learned nothing from this series, we have learned that Lanisters pay their debts, Jon Snow knows nothing, Impin’ ain’t easy, and Winter is coming, Bitches.

Since I have read all of the books and the show is adhering most faithfully to the primary plot points, I can slide some spoilers to you if you are interested.  Granted, you can find these all over the net, but here they will be in one happy little package for you.  I will cover what is coming up in the immediate future, because a lot of what happen beyond that builds on other stories that are just falling into place.  Do NOT click over to read more if you want to be spoiler free.  Beyond the link is anything BUT spoiler free.

glees4iconsmallTop 8 Most Confusing Aspects of “All or Nothing”

By Becca

Last night was the end of Glee’s season 4, although it felt like more of a midway point for a longer season. A lot happened and not enough at the same time. I’ll have plenty to say about that concept in a week or so, but for now, in no particular order, here’s a list of the biggest things that made me go hmm?

By Becca

Kitty said in this episode, “I like to switch it up, be unpredictable. Sometimes I’m sweet, and sometimes I’m sour.” I can’t help but think that’s true of this show in general. “Wonder-Ful” is the second episode in a row in which humor appears to have flown the Glee coop, not counting Tina’s amused expression when Kitty made fun of Mercedes’ belting. But I think it succeeded where “Lights’ Out” failed because public service announcements were MIA.

Glee has many problems. It always has. Too many characters, whiplash plots, and schizophrenic portrayals of social issues are only a few of them. Unfortunately, “Lights Out” was an episode that showcased two particularly annoying faults of Glee: acting as an afterschool special and forgetting to set up scenes. Even more unfortunately, the episode wasn’t funny enough to make up for it.

The Glee-Full Fab

Last week’s Glee had a moving tribute to Lord Tubbington, including a Lady Tubbington shoved into Sam’s locker for hours. It had Ryder further embroiled in his online love affair, to the point he turned down a gorgeous girl who was completely into him. And it had a school lockdown with all the McKinley staff and students fearing for their lives. This week … had a lot of parties.

Hi Gleeks! Just letting you know there will NOT be a Glee-Full Gab column this week. I swear it’s not because tonight’s “Shooting Star” is bound to be controversial–I’m just plain old sick with the flu. I’ll be lucky if the episode makes sense to me…but isn’t that true of most Glee episodes?

The Glee-Full Gab

glees4iconsmall“Guilty Pleasures”

By Becca

Guilty pleasures flew at us nonstop this episode! There were so many that Blaine reading Goosebumps, the kid wearing coolots, and Santana’s obvious love for her new pillow were barely passing gags. The primary focuses were Kurt’s compulsions, Blaine’s crush on Sam, and a love for songs that make the hipsters among us snicker — and let’s face it, we are all hipsters in our own ways.

By Becca

The feuds came nonstop this episode of Glee, so much so that even the previouslies were taken over. Dramatic music introduced the flashbacks that you’ll note only contained Finn, Will, and a mention of Emma. None of the other feuds were set up because none of them existed before this episode, unless you count the mounting tension between honest Santana and the NYC crew.

By Becca

If I could marry this episode of Glee, I probably would. If I could play it in a continuous loop in the background of my life, I would be content. “I Do” was Glee at its finest, and it’s not just because Kurt and Blaine made out in a car, spent the night swimming in flirty glances, and gave into lust. But that was certainly the highlight.

This episode strengthened the bond between Finn, coffee, and sugar (Not Sugar, she was absent). It gave us the hilarious nicknames of “Blainey Days,” “Bling Bling,” and “Tay tay.” A harmless, blue, Vick’s VapoRub jar rose to stardom. And Santana’s pipes stole the show.

glees4iconsmallNaked

By Becca

Last night’s episode of Glee, “Naked,” covered that topic from nearly all angles, both on camera and in storyline. Emotional vulnerability came from Jake and Marley’s fears to exchange I love yous. Then there was Rachel’s dilemma over nudity for career advancement, and the New Direction boys’ topless fundraiser, which culminated in Sam believing baring his body was all he had to offer. Ultimately, it was the sweet, tender music performances that impressed me most, which was a nice change from last week in which they were all a blur of blue dresses and suits.

A month and a half has passed since Glee last aired. In the meantime, Kurt started his classes at NYADA and the school somehow became much more of a school than it did when Rachel started. William McKinley High School has apparently never entertained the idea of girls asking boys to a dance much less had a dance for that specific purpose. Trent Chubby Warbler became important. Mostly, though, I’m excited that Tina Cohen-Chang has become the voice (and eyes) of the people.

The Vampire Diaries

The Killer

11/8/12

The Professor, whose name I can’t recall, meets with Conor and informs him to keep Bonnie safe.  Conor declines.  Anyone who gets in his way dies.

Crap.  Elena writes in her diary.  Annoying voice over as she laments he vampire status and Stefan does the same.  Blech!

Conor goes after Jeremy with a knife and uses him as bait for Matt and April.  Than they all become bait.  Stefan decides he should go in alone.  Damon gives Stefan one hour and orders Caroline to call Bonnie out of retirement.

The Vampire Diaries

The Five

11-1-12

Flashback to 1110 AD

You can always count on topless men with great physiques on the CW.  Maybe that is why I watch so many of their shows.  I am not really sure.  The men are in a circle with a chanting woman and as she chants tattoos appear across their chest and body.  So begins The Five.  We learn they are highly skilled hunters from Italy.

Thanksgiving

By Becca

I am running out the door to head on vacation—my first time in New Orleans!—so I am not doing a full column this week for Glee. But I couldn’t leave without a quick note on Kurt calling Blaine. I couldn’t let that interaction dangle in the wind without comment! So here it is: I am so glad Kurt is his own person.
