glees4iconsmall“All or Nothing” Take 2

By Becca

I promised a follow-up to my initial thoughts on Glee’s Season 4 finale, “All or Nothing.” Those thoughts were mainly “What? Huh?” regarding the confusing aspects of the episode like Finn’s continuing, unexplained absence and the diners at Breadstix in fictional Lima, OH, cheering on a lesbian couple’s engagement.  But the most confusing aspect of all, and what I wanted to delve into deeper, is how badly the episode’s cliffhangers ended. Consider this a treatise on how not to build up interest for the next season of a television show.

The Doctor’s Order – GH

Let it be noted that while I haven’t watched GH yet this week, I am enjoying it far more than I have in years. But for the past few weeks, the only storyline that has my full attention is Liz’s triangle. And that attention is in no small part due to the beautiful suit AJ wore during the Chew shenanigans. Sean Kanan is looking the best he has since his return.

glees4iconsmallTop 8 Most Confusing Aspects of “All or Nothing”

By Becca

Last night was the end of Glee’s season 4, although it felt like more of a midway point for a longer season. A lot happened and not enough at the same time. I’ll have plenty to say about that concept in a week or so, but for now, in no particular order, here’s a list of the biggest things that made me go hmm?

Ellie has joined with Maxie in plotting to keep the baby’s true parents secret. Along the way, she broke into Maxie’s medical record and grossly violated HIPAA procedures, couldn’t keep her nose out of other people’s business, and decided to lie to her boyfriend over something she knows he wants dearly. And yet I still don’t hate her.

Kitty said in this episode, “I like to switch it up, be unpredictable. Sometimes I’m sweet, and sometimes I’m sour.” I can’t help but think that’s true of this show in general. “Wonder-Ful” is the second episode in a row in which humor appears to have flown the Glee coop, not counting Tina’s amused expression when Kitty made fun of Mercedes’ belting. But I think it succeeded where “Lights’ Out” failed because public service announcements were MIA.

General Hospital is plowing through plots right now! Has Lulu already moved on from thinking she’s married to Stavros? Is Patrick really close enough with Sabrina already for lap-cuddling? Did Nikolas spend all his time on Cassadine Island working on his abs? The plots are flying fast, but I can’t complain if they’re as entertaining as Brenda’s liaison with Michael.

Glee has many problems. It always has. Too many characters, whiplash plots, and schizophrenic portrayals of social issues are only a few of them. Unfortunately, “Lights Out” was an episode that showcased two particularly annoying faults of Glee: acting as an afterschool special and forgetting to set up scenes. Even more unfortunately, the episode wasn’t funny enough to make up for it.

I’m a few weeks late, but I want to talk about those Nurses’ Ball performances! Was anything cringe worthier than Mac and Mr. Marbles? Did “She Blinded Me With Science” charm you as much as it charmed me? What was Lucy’s best dress? Come share!

Last week’s Glee had a moving tribute to Lord Tubbington, including a Lady Tubbington shoved into Sam’s locker for hours. It had Ryder further embroiled in his online love affair, to the point he turned down a gorgeous girl who was completely into him. And it had a school lockdown with all the McKinley staff and students fearing for their lives. This week … had a lot of parties.

Hi Gleeks! Just letting you know there will NOT be a Glee-Full Gab column this week. I swear it’s not because tonight’s “Shooting Star” is bound to be controversial–I’m just plain old sick with the flu. I’ll be lucky if the episode makes sense to me…but isn’t that true of most Glee episodes?

I didn’t think it could happen. But with the nostalgia fest that is this 50th anniversary year, it has. What is this surprising turn of events? That my Sonny and Brenda heart still beats despite knowing Vanessa Marcil is here on only a limited engagement. Despite being subjected to a year of Sonny supporting both a vapid fiancé and her highly obnoxious, annoying, time-sucking mess of an alter. Despite being fully aware that toxic is the definition of Sonny and Brenda’s relationship. Despite all that, I still love ‘em.

It was pick and choose your favorite surprise arrival this week! Audrey, Ethan, Brenda, and Jax all popped up in one episode, not to mention the million more folks who have appeared in recent days. But my favorite was definitely Audrey, who played a passing role in one of Liz’s many storylines. Part of me, the cynical side, rolled my eyes at bringing Audrey in, yet again, just for a GH anniversary celebration. But then the sap part of me whacked the cynic over the head and said, “Enjoy!” And I have, all week long.

Kisses were exchanged like currency last week with  General Hospital’s departing One Life to Live characters, but they didn’t seem to buy any relationship advancement. I’m glad Carly cut off her transaction with Todd, but why didn’t Sam take McBain to the bank?

Guilty pleasures flew at us nonstop this episode! There were so many that Blaine reading Goosebumps, the kid wearing coolots, and Santana’s obvious love for her new pillow were barely passing gags. The primary focuses were Kurt’s compulsions, Blaine’s crush on Sam, and a love for songs that make the hipsters among us snicker — and let’s face it, we are all hipsters in our own ways.

Sam yells at Alexis angrily and drunkenly for months. Emily becomes a tumor in Nikolas’s brain. Angel Boris exists. There are many storylines I have loathed over the years, but Connie and Kate taunting each other over who should be in Sonny’s bed may be the worst.
