Game of Thrones Spoilers

thumb_game-of-thrones-003.flvBy Katrina Rasbold

Are you as hooked as I am?  That would be to say totally hooked!   I love the series and I loved the books, although Martin does tend to get a bit rambly in parts and by the time you get to his most recent book, Dance With Dragons, you’ve got a whopping total of 31 points of view perspectives (characters telling the story from their perspective).  The books are lonnnnng, but good at holding your attention for the most part.  For those who do not know, there are currently a total of 5 books in the A Song of Ice and Fire series (the first book is called Game of Thrones and HBO adopted it for the name of their whole series) and the last one was released in 2011.  He is taking his own sweet time with #6 and we are hopeful considering that George is only 64, that he will live long enough to finish the story since he absolutely refuses to allow anyone rights to continue it if he dies.  At this time, he plans on two more books in the series, The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring, which will likely cover some time in the future because if we have learned nothing from this series, we have learned that Lanisters pay their debts, Jon Snow knows nothing, Impin’ ain’t easy, and Winter is coming, Bitches.

Since I have read all of the books and the show is adhering most faithfully to the primary plot points, I can slide some spoilers to you if you are interested.  Granted, you can find these all over the net, but here they will be in one happy little package for you.  I will cover what is coming up in the immediate future, because a lot of what happen beyond that builds on other stories that are just falling into place.  Do NOT click over to read more if you want to be spoiler free.  Beyond the link is anything BUT spoiler free.

Marla’s Books – A Guest Column

marlasbooksBy Marla

Just to let you know a little about me, my name is Marla and I will be taking you on the occasional book journey.  I have a Master’s degree in Library Science, so I have read every book in the library (Not really, but everyone thinks Librarians only read books and shhh people).  I have slowed down my reading, those little time wasters, Facebook, Google, and Jodi Arias just keep getting in my way, which is why I will only be occasional. My twenty-something daughters informed me one day when I was trying to convince them to read a certain book,  “Mom, we don’t want to read books about 40 year old women.”  So, I have varied my list of books to read, but stay mostly with Chick Lit (characters under the age of 35), Hen Lit (characters over the age of 40) with some YA Lit and biographies in the mixture. I try to avoid sappy books and most definitely am not one of those people who only read so-called  ”important works of literature”.   Sci-Fi and Fantasy lovers need not wait around for my grand pronouncements, since I rarely read those genres.  Lovers of Kiddie Lit, especially the hilarious Junie B. Jones books might actually look forward to my musings.

About Hulu, OLTL & AMC

a-hulu1By Katrina Rasbold

Several of you have asked if there will be a charge for watching OLTL and AMC on Hulu.

While there is no charge to watch the shows on your computer on hulu.com, you need to know that you will only be able to view the most recent episode and it will contain commercials.

If you subscribe to Hulu Plus ($7.99 a month), you can view previous shows, you can view them on your TV with a transcoding device like Roku or a Smart TV, Smart Phone, or other device that gets Hulu, plus there will be no commercials.

On iTunes, the shows are 99 cents each.

Each show will produce 210 half-hour shows per year, which is 4 episodes per week.

Future of OLTL’s Characters on GH

prospectparkIn 2011, when Prospect Park decided to put everything on the line to reboot these shows, they lent characters to “General Hospital” until shooting began for the new programs so that the characters could stay alive with the fans and also so that the actors could remain working.  Everyone at ABC and on the production staff of “General Hospital” understood that this was a temporary arrangement until production started once again on “One Life to Live.”  Now the time has come to start production and Prospect Park needs to, once again, cast these characters including Llanview transplants Michael Easton (John) and Kristen Alderson (Starr).

See statement below:

“Prospect Park understands that ‘General Hospital’ has featured Llanview transplants Michael Easton (John) and Kristen Alderson (Starr) among others while we arranged production of the new version of ‘One Life to Live.’ These characters, who we own under our agreement, are obviously essential to our production efforts, and a large reason we licensed the program. We also understand that legions of ‘General Hospital’ fans have grown to love these actors and characters in a short time. So even though we are paying ABC millions of dollars to license the shows, we have been, and continue to be willing to equally share the characters with ‘General Hospital’ and ABC. It’s a win-win for the actors, the shows and fans, who love all of the shows and storylines. We hope to work out these agreements with ABC and the actors.”
